Don’t be afraid when you are stuck in this place. Although it may not feel like it, you are exactly where you need to be right now. There are always lessons to be learned when you feel you are in this negative space.
It can be really hard to hold on to any degree of perspective in such moments, but remember that it is highly unlikely that you are the only one!
If your best friend was telling you about their overwhelming situation what would you say to them?
• Slow down
• Write it all down
• Is there anyone you know that has already been through this, that you can talk it through with?
• Take baby steps – one day at a time
• “This too shall pass” – it is all temporary
• Do not give up
• What do you know now about yourself that you didn’t know before?
• Don’t forget to breathe!
In this space, we can forget to do the things that are part of our individual self-care regimes. We know the things that support us to do and be our best, but they can be so hard to do. As soon as you can, do them.
No brilliant decisions ever come from a space of overwhelm, think about it… your great plans, options that you went for that really worked out, came from a space of being relaxed and in alignment with who you are, your values and what you want out of life.
Hence the self care piece. The sooner you can get back to being you, your best self – the better you will feel and resuming control over your life and things causing the overwhelm will come more naturally to you.
This is something I help my clients with; resuming their position as the leader in their lives and feeling calmer, happier and truly alive again.
